The makers of Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic “Ramayana” have set the Telugu film industry abuzz with news that the film’s music rights have been snapped up in a landmark deal. Industry insiders confirm that the transaction has shattered previous records, with the price reportedly crossing the double-digit crore mark. While official figures remain under wraps, sources close to the production team reveal that the agreement with a leading music label is the most expensive ever for a non-sequel Indian film.

The magnum opus, scheduled for a worldwide release on November 8, 2026, has been generating enormous pre-release excitement thanks to its stellar ensemble cast. Ranbir Kapoor steps into the role of Lord Ram, while also portraying Parshuram and Vishnu. Sai Pallavi will be seen as Sita, with Ravi Dubey playing Lakshman. In a casting coup, Kannada superstar Yash takes on the antagonist role of Ravana. The film also features Arun Govil as Dasharatha, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Kajal Aggarwal as Mandodari, and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha.

Music Rights Deal Breaks Records

The music rights deal is being described as a “game-changer” by trade analysts. According to a source who requested anonymity, the winning bid came from a major South Indian label that outmaneuvered several competitors during a high-stakes auction. “The offer was so substantial that the producers couldn’t refuse. It sets a new benchmark not just for Telugu cinema but for the entire Indian film industry,” the source said. The transaction is believed to include both the original soundtrack and background score rights for all languages in which the film will be released.

While the exact amount has not been officially confirmed, multiple industry trackers estimate the deal to be in the range of ₹35 to ₹40 crore. This would comfortably surpass the previous record held by the “Baahubali” franchise, which had commanded around ₹25 crore for its music rights at the time of release. The swelling figure reflects both the massive scale of the project and the confidence that music labels have in the film’s commercial viability.

Star-Studded Cast and Epic Scale

Director Nitesh Tiwari, best known for his work on “Dangal” and “Chhichhore,” has assembled a cast that reads like a who’s who of Indian cinema. Ranbir Kapoor’s triple role - as Ram, the avatar of Vishnu, and the fierce sage Parshuram - is one of the most ambitious acting challenges of his career. Sai Pallavi, whose portrayal of Sita has already drawn comparisons to mythical depictions in Telugu folklore, underwent extensive training in classical dance and archery for the role.

Yash, making his pan-India debut after the “KGF” series, brings his signature intensity to the demon king Ravana. The casting of Arun Govil, who famously played Ram in the 1980s television series “Ramayan,” as Dasharatha is being hailed as a nostalgic masterstroke. Sunny Deol’s Hanuman promises high-octane action sequences, while Kajal Aggarwal and Rakul Preet Singh round out the supporting cast.

The film’s visual effects are being handled by an international team, with principal photography completed across multiple schedules in India and abroad. Production sources confirm that the runtime has yet to be finalized, but early cuts suggest a three-hour-plus epic that will cover the first half of the Valmiki narrative, ending with the exile of Ram, Sita, and Lakshman.

With the music rights deal already making headlines, anticipation for the first single release - expected later this year - is at an all-time high. The “Ramayana” team is believed to be working on a multi-composer soundtrack that blends traditional folk melodies with contemporary orchestration. If the record-breaking music rights are any indication, the audio launch alone could become one of the biggest events in Indian cinema history.
